Mexico has reached an agreement with airlines for cargo transfer to the new airport, according to the president
The Mexican government and some airlines have agreed to relocate cargo operations to a new airport on the outskirts of Mexico City in order to relieve congestion at the country’s main hub, President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador announced on Wednesday.
Earlier this month, Lopez Obrador stated that cargo flights would be relocated due to a lack of space at Benito Juarez International Airport. According to flight data, approximately 3% of flights at the airport last year were for cargo.
According to Lopez Obrador, cargo operations will be transferred to the new airport in four months. He mentioned DHL as one of the companies involved in the transition.
According to Lopez Obrador, the first cargo plane will arrive at the Felipe Angeles International Airport in the third week of February.
