In response to ChatGPT, Google introduces Bard A.I.
Google announced on Monday that it will begin rolling out an artificial intelligence chatbot technology called Bard in the coming weeks. The announcement backs up previous CNBC reporting. Bard will compete directly with OpenAI’s ChatGPT, an AI service.
LaMDA, or Language Model for Dialogue Applications, is the company’s large language model that powers Bard. Google said that it will make the conversation technology available to «trusted testers» before making it more widely available to the public.
According to CNBC, Google is testing some of these features with employees as part of a «code red» response plan to ChatGPT, a popular chatbot backed in part by Microsoft. A chatbot called «Apprentice Bard» was included, as well as new search desktop designs that could be used in a question-and-answer format.
The product tests follow a recent all-hands meeting in which employees expressed concerns about the company’s competitive edge in AI, given ChatGPT’s sudden popularity.
