Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador agrees to build a Tesla plant in Mexico
The state of Nuevo León will house all electric vehicles in Mexico. Elon Musk has chosen the city of Monterrey as the location for his factoring departure. After weeks of uncertainty and competition between the States to win the Tesla factory, the president of Mexico, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, has revealed the company’s decision to invest in the country’s north, though he hasn’t revealed the amount of the investment.
The investment would be «very big», according to President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, who made the statement without giving further details. He also mentioned that a potential investment in batteries was still pending.
The Mexican factory would be the third one that Tesla built outside of the American market, joining its facilities in Shanghai and close to Berlin.
Samuel Garcia, the governor of Nuevo Leon, appeared to be extremely pleased with the announcement that Tesla would have a factory there. This is because, despite the concerns of the populace, particularly those relating to water, Garcia celebrates the arrival of the factory.
After AMLO’s announcement, the governor wrote on his official Twitter account, «Ganó Mexico, ganó Nuevo León, ganamos todos!»
