Ryan Reynolds began his career in sitcoms in the early 1990s, first in Canada’s Hillside (known as Fifteen in the United States) and then in the United States’ Two Guys, and a Girl, and a Pizza Place.
Although he’s appeared in everything from comedies to horror to rom-coms, he’s best known for his work as an action star, particularly as the comic book hero Deadpool.

Deadpool was a box office success, grossing $783 million in worldwide ticket sales, and its sequel, Deadpool 2, earned roughly the same amount.

He received a base salary of $2 million for Deadpool, as well as millions in subsequent bonuses.

Reynolds ranked 15th on Forbes’ list of the world’s highest-paid actors in 2017 after the film’s release in 2016, earning an estimated $21.5 million. In November 2024, a third Deadpool film will be released.

Reynolds has also appeared in several lucrative films on streaming platforms. According to Forbes, the actor earned an estimated $48.5 million for his roles in Netflix films Six Underground (2019) and Red Notice (2021). Reynolds was also awarded $20 million by Apple TV+ for the holiday film Spirited Away (2022).

Businesses and Brands
Reynolds amassed millions of dollars through investments in startups and other business ventures. He owns his own production and marketing company, as well as the Welsh soccer team Wrexham AFC and a telecommunications company.

Maximum Effort
In 2018, Reynolds co-founded Maximum Effort, a production company and marketing agency, with George Dewey, who worked closely with Reynolds to market Deadpool.

The agency is responsible for viral ads for companies like Match and Mint Mobile that have received millions of views on YouTube.

Reynolds is a Match Group board member and the owner of Mint Mobile.

Reynolds was named CEO of the company’s marketing division, Maximum Effort Marketing, after it was purchased by advertising software company MNTN in 2021.

Maximum Effort, which is still run independently, signed a first-look deal with streaming service FuboTV in 2022, receiving $10 million in stock.

Aviation Gin

Reynolds became the creative director and board member of Aviation Gin after purchasing a stake in the company in 2018. Reynolds sold Aviation Gin to European beverage company Diageo for an estimated $610 million two years later.

Mint Mobile

Reynolds owns Mint Mobile, a wireless carrier he purchased in 2019. Reynolds became the company’s main spokesperson, creating a series of creative ads promoting the carrier on TV and to his millions of social media followers.

According to Bloomberg, T-Mobile agreed to buy Mint Mobile and its parent company, Ka’ena Corp., for an estimated $1.35 billion in March 2023.

Wealthsimple
Reynolds is also an investor in Wealthsimple, a Canadian online wealth management service. The Toronto-based firm raised $750 million in 2021, giving it a $5 billion valuation.

Other celebrity investors in the company include Canadian rapper Drake and actor Michael J. Fox.

1Password
Reynolds is an investor in 1Password, a Canadian password management software company. He is also the company’s face and appears in commercials. In 2022, the company raised $620 million and is valued at $6.8 billion.
