Carlos Hank González: the banker grows in the age of neobanks
Carlos Hank González and his family were scrutinized by more than one investor and the media when Grupo Financiero Banorte entered the competition to buy Banamex from Citigroup, bringing them closer to becoming the country’s largest bank, a position now held by BBVA.
However, this strategy did not succeed, and after months of being regarded as one of the most plausible offers by analysts, the firm led by Carlos Hank González announced its withdrawal from the process in October 2022.
Hermes of Carlos Hank provides services such as the construction and supervision of civil and electromechanical works for road, hydraulic, and building projects, as well as the operation, conservation, rehabilitation, exploitation, supervision, and administration of roads and buildings. Management of concession titles and service providing contracts are also included.
It has constructed almost 1,000 kilometers of roads, 12,000 meters of bridges, 13,600 meters of tunnels, and is present in 15 states across the country.
Banorte initiated internal testing of the Bineo platform months ago. The digital bank, however, will not see the light of day until the end of 2023, because the concept is that it should be born alive, that is, it should not be a single product, as other competitors are.
This neobank is only a step forward for Carlos Hank’s company in competing with all of the digital banks that exist in the market, but with the advantage of arriving to this field with strong experience.
