How the United States is attempting to break Ticketmaster’s monopoly in the sale of tickets
A new law proposal that is moving quickly through the California legislature was presented as a result of a frustrating experience that Scott Wilk’s sister had purchasing tickets.
And no, it wasn’t Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour that gave rise to it. In reality, Live Nation Entertainment might have faced a legal challenge because of a hockey game between smaller leagues.
The Wilk law project will not eliminate supplemental fees. Nothing will completely overthrow Live Nation Entertainment’s hold on the live events industry. A more pertinent practice of the company is to require the facilities to sign exclusive agreements for up to 10 years.
«By banning exclusive contracts for the major ticket sellers, like Ticketmaster, the door will be opened to more competition within the ticketing industry. This will encourage innovation and, with any luck, lead to lower prices and a more enjoyable shopping experience, explained Wilk to Insider.
The Wilk law proposal was easily approved by the California Senate in May. Currently, they are waiting for action in the state assembly.
