Five days after debut, Meta’s Threads app had 100 million signups
Today, Meta Platforms Inc. revealed that more than 100 million people had downloaded the brand-new social networking software Threads.
The symbolic accomplishment was highlighted in a post on the app by Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri, who is also in charge of Threads. Three days after the program achieved 70 million signups and five days after its introduction, the development occurred.
A service akin to Twitter called Threads was created by the Meta business unit, which also runs Instagram. Posts of up to 500 characters, photos, and five-minute movies can all be shared by users. Within the app interface, posts from the accounts that a user follows are shown in a centralized feed.
A previous service that Meta started in 2019 and shut down roughly two years later shares a name with Threads. Through that service, users may use Instagram’s Direct Messaging function without opening the main app. Additionally, it included some comparable features that were later added to Instagram.
Threads is currently accessible through Meta in 100 nations, but not in the EU. The choice was made in response to «complexities with complying with some of the laws coming into effect.» He clarified, though, that Meta does intend to eventually introduce Threads into the bloc.
