US government accuses SpaceX of having a discriminatory recruiting policy
Elon Musk’s SpaceX is being sued by the US Department of Justice, which claims that the rocket company discriminates against immigrants and asylum seekers in its hiring procedures.
According to the DoJ, SpaceX made a false assertion that hiring people from outside the US was prohibited.
The DoJ’s inquiry into SpaceX was brought on by claims of discrimination from a foreign employee.
SpaceX has been approached by the BBC for comment.
According to Kristen Clarke, Assistant Attorney General of the DOJ’s Civil Rights Division, «Our investigation found that SpaceX failed to fairly consider or hire asylees and refugees because of their citizenship status and imposed what amounted to a ban on their hire regardless of their qualification.»
The DOJ’s inquiry, Ms. Clarke continued, «found that SpaceX recruiters and high-level officials actively discouraged asylees and refugees from seeking employment opportunities at the company.»
