Less operations in the Mexico City International Airport will cause issues and not alleviate saturation: ASPA
Reduced air traffic at the International Airport of Mexico City (AICM) would not help the issue of saturation, according to the Asociación Sindical de Pilotos Aviadores (ASPA) of Mexico, and would even bring up new issues.
The union group stated in a statement that the federal government’s decision «será desastrosa» for the industry because it will have an impact on commercial aviation, tourism, and the workers in each of those industries.
They clarified that the measure only harms Mexican airlines and adds to the limitations that Category 2 already brings. The airlines’ ability to expand their operations will already be constrained, and they may even have to reduce their employment opportunities or perhaps lay off workers.
The real issue with the AICM, as seen from the perspective of the pilots, is the lack of investment made to provide better comfort and services for facility users.
Despite acknowledging that the current management has done a good job, they insisted that more investment is needed in infrastructure, maintenance, and a sufficient number of positions and personnel to meet current demand.
