The first phase of the Georgia factory for electric truck manufacturer Rivian is scheduled to begin building in 2024

Early in the new year, Rivian Automotive plans to begin building a factory in Georgia, the business announced on Thursday.

The news was made by the California-based electric truck firm as it opened its eighth retail site in an intown Atlanta development. The company is calling these places, a network of locations, and it is currently rolling it out in a few select locations around the country. In the upcoming months, the company intends to open other facilities in Colorado, Texas, and California.

Customers cannot purchase a truck or SUV from Rivian at its Atlanta facility; instead, the company only offers online sales in order to circumvent Georgia laws requiring automakers to have dealers. However, the business hopes that those who are considering purchasing or have already reserved one of Rivian’s cars will drop by to find out more about electric cars, get a peek inside, take a test drive, and even purchase a jacket or bag bearing the Rivian name.

The initial phase of Rivian’s factory is expected to begin producing 200,000 vehicles annually in 2024, while a second phase with the capacity to produce an additional 200,000 vehicles annually is expected to be finished by 2030. Next year, the R2’s design will be revealed, Rivian officials announced on Thursday.
