Whitney Wolfe Herd, the founder of Bumble, has stepped down as CEO of the dating app
After nearly ten years in charge, the founder and CEO of one of the world’s largest dating applications is stepping down.
Whitney Wolfe Herd, who founded the company in 2014, will take over as CEO.
Ms Wolfe Herd told the Wall Street Journal that she wants to «innovate for the future of Bumble Inc and to take us 10 years ahead.»
Lidiane Jones, the new Slack CEO, will take over in January.
When Ms Wolfe Herd, 34, took Bumble public in February 2021, she became the world’s youngest self-made female billionaire.
Ms Wolfe Herd has stated that she was inspired to build a site where women «make the first move» because she was frustrated with traditional gender rules governing relationships.
Unlike other dating apps, only female users can initiate contact with matched male users, however with same-sex matches, either person can initiate contact.
Bumble’s shares peaked at $75 shortly after its IPO, but have subsequently fallen to an all-time low of $12.77 on the announcement that Ms Wolfe Herd is stepping down.
