Warren Buffett makes a large donation ahead of Thanksgiving and promises shareholders Berkshire is made to last
Before Thanksgiving, Warren Buffett donated more than $870 million in Berkshire Hathaway stock to four family charities, telling investors in a letter that the company is «built to last.»
The 93-year-old famed investor gave the Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation 1.5 million Class B shares of his conglomerate. He also donated 300,000 Class B shares to each of his children’s foundations: the Sherwood Foundation, the Howard G. Buffett Foundation, and the NoVo Foundation.
Last Thanksgiving, he made similar contributions. The «Oracle of Omaha» promised to give away the money he built at Berkshire Hathaway, the Omaha-based corporation he founded in 1965. Since 2006, Buffett has made annual contributions to the same four charities.
