Mexico’s Pato’ O’Ward to join McLaren team in 2024 as F1 reserve driver

McLaren IndyCar Formula 1 team announced Thursday that Mexican driver Patricio Pato’ O’Ward will join its reserve group for the 2024 season, and will make his debut in Free Practice 1 and the post-season test at the 2023 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

As reported by the factory in an official statement, his participation in the 2023 Grand Prix is part of the progression within McLaren’s driver development program, where he will test his skills.

O’Ward, 24, started racing when he was just six years old and joined the British family in 2020, having participated in several MCL35M Driver Development tests and driven in the 2021 Abu Dhabi Young Driver test and in free practice for the 2022 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
