Slim’s buy Baillères’ stake in oil fields for $530 million dollars
The Ichalkil & Pokoch oil fields, which are situated in Contract Area 4 off the coast of Campeche, are acquired by Carso from PetroBal in its entirety.
Billionaire Carlos Slim’s Grupo Carso SAB reached an agreement with PetroBal SAPI de CV to acquire its stake in two oil fields in the Mexican state of Campeche for US$530 million.
Its subsidiary Zamajal SA de CV agreed to buy a PetroBal unit that owns 50% of the Ichalkil and Pokoch oil fields, Grupo Carso said in a statement on Monday.
According to Grupo Carso, the fields, which are off the coast of Campeche, yield roughly 16,350 barrels of crude oil equivalent each day. According to the corporation, the acquisition is contingent upon meeting certain requirements, such as receiving Mexican regulatory approval.
Slim’s involvement in Mexican oil production is expanding as a result of this investment. According to regulatory filings, the billionaire’s family investment company, Control Empresarial de Capitales, has acquired approximately US$327 million in Talos Energy Inc. and Harbor Energy Plc through at least six transactions since October.
