Anthropic, a 2021 startup backed by firms like Google, Salesforce, and Zoom, has already collected a total of $750 million through two funding rounds in April and May, one of which saw Google purchase a 10% stake in the business. Based on statistics from PitchBook, Anthropic’s May fundraising was at the time the biggest AI business funding round since Microsoft’s January investment in OpenAI.
Google committed to investing up to $2 billion in the firm in October; this includes an initial capital infusion of $500 million and subsequent payments of $1.5 billion.
