Sales of Apple’s Vision Pro AR headset will begin in February
Apple announced on Monday that the Vision Pro device, which it had designed to disrupt the augmented reality (AR) headset industry dominated by Facebook parent company Meta Platforms (META.O), will be available in the US starting on February 2.
Since the release of the iPhone over ten years ago, Apple’s most costly venture has been the Vision Pro. At $3,499, the AR headset is more than three times the price of the most expensive headgear in Meta’s lineup of mixed and virtual reality products.
Preorders for Apple’s Vision Pro will open on January 19 at 5 a.m. PST, the firm announced. The gadget makes use of a novel semiconductor called R1, which can handle sensor data faster than the blink of an eye.
The headgear will test a market full of gadgets that customers haven’t taken to, and it will pit it against Meta directly following years of disputes between the two companies on matters such as developer platform control and user privacy.
