Tesla Mexico appoints Terry Gutierrez as its new CEO
Terry took up the role of CEO of Tesla Mexico less than a year after Elon Musk announced that a gigafactory will be built in Monterrey.
Teresa Gutiérrez, replaces Françoise Lavertu; she has more than 10 years of experience in the e-commerce, logistics and marketing sectors. In her career she has left her mark in brands such as Mattel, Nestlé and most recently, Rappi, where she served as Country Manager.
According to sources, Terry will not only be CEO of Tesla Mexico, but also in charge of expanding the brand throughout the rest of Latin America.
Terry faces a peculiar challenge in Mexico, where the adoption of this type of mobility is low. In our country, electric cars accounted for only 0.5% of national car sales in 2022, according to figures from the Mexican Automotive Industry Association (AMIA). If hybrids are added, Mexico barely reaches 4.7%.
At the same time, there is the challenge of competing with even more electric car companies that see Mexico as fertile ground for market growth – among them China’s BYD, which recently overtook Tesla as the world’s leading seller of electric vehicles.
