Elon Musk reports that his business Neuralink has successfully implanted its first chip into a human brain
The multibillionaire tech entrepreneur Elon Musk claims that his company Neuralink has successfully implanted one of its implanted inalambric brain chips into a human being for the first time.
Early findings revealed encouraging neural spikes or nerve impulses, and the patient is making a full recovery, he reported.
According to the business, Neuralink wants to integrate computers and human brains to cure neurological disorders that are difficult to manage.
Similar gadgets have previously been installed by a number of rival businesses.
After facing challenges in obtaining approval, Musk’s business achieved a significant milestone in May when the FDA gave the go-ahead to test the chip on humans.
This approved the start of the six-year trial, which comprises 64 flexible wires—thinner than a human hair—that are surgically inserted into the brain to govern «movement intention,» according to Neuralink. The procedure is carried out by a robot.
According to the manufacturer, these cables enable its experimental implant, which runs on a wirelessly rechargeable battery, to record and send brain impulses to a program that interprets the user’s intended gait.
According to Musk, Telepathy will make it possible to «control your phone or computer, and through them almost any device, just by thinking.»
«Imagine if Stephen Hawking could communicate faster than a typist or an auctioneer. That’s the goal,» he added, referring to the late British scientist who suffered from motor neuron disease.
