Ford launches EV Supercharging for Tesla vehicles
To link non-Tesla cars with other charging technologies to the Tesla charging network, an adapter is required. This is the procedure’s flow.
Tesla Supercharging is now available to owners of Ford Motor electric vehicles in the United States and Canada. Though supply constraints are anticipated initially, the rollout is scheduled to commence on Thursday.
The Detroit carmaker was the first to declare an agreement to use the Supercharger network of the electric vehicle manufacturer, Tesla. Since then, the great majority of American automakers have done the same. As a result of the agreements, businesses like Ford will use Tesla’s charging station for upcoming electric vehicles.
To connect non-Tesla vehicles—which use a different kind of charging technology—to the Tesla network in the meantime, an adapter is required. Ford claims that the agreement would more than double its owners’ access to fast chargers; nevertheless, it can take some time for all customers to receive the adapters.
«As we proceed, we have limitations on supply, but we do think that during the first stages of launch, demand will surpass supply,» stated Ken Williams, Ford’s director of charging and energy services, in a press conference. «On a first-come, first-served basis, that demand will be managed by us.»
When asked about specifics, Tesla, the company that built the adaptor and is in charge of distributing it to manufacturers, remained silent.
