Neuralink: According to Musk’s company, the first patient with a brain chip plays online chess
Neuralink, Elon Musk’s brain-chip startup, has released a video of its first patient use an implanted gadget to move a cursor on a computer.
In a nine-minute live broadcast on X (previously Twitter), Noland Arbaugh plays online chess using a cursor.
Following a diving accident that left him paralyzed below the shoulders, Mr. Arbaugh had a chip implant in January.
The startup wants to help treat complicated neurological diseases by using computers to interface with human brains.
«The surgery was super easy,» Speaking at the presentation was Mr. Arbaugh.
In addition, Mr. Arbaugh said that he has played the computer game Civilization VI with the brain implant. According to him, Neuralink enabled him to «play for eight hours straight and do that again.»
But according to Mr. Arbaugh, they «have run into some issues» with the new technology, so it’s not ideal.
The size of a one-pound coin, Neuralink’s gadget is implanted into the skull and contains tiny wires that can detect neuron activity and transmit a wireless signal to a receiving device.
Additionally, the business conducted tests on pigs and said that monkeys could play a rudimentary version of Pong on a computer.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) authorized Neuralink to conduct human testing on the chip in May 2023.
