Liberty Media, the owner of Formula One, announced that it will buy MotoGP for $4.53 billion
Carmelo Ezpeleta, the company’s seasoned executive president, will continue in his role, and Dorna will continue to operate as an independent business within the Liberty Media Formula One Group, according to MotoGP.
MotoGP’s parent company, Dorna, was acquired by Formula One’s U.S.-based owner, Liberty Media. This transaction is valued at $4.53 billion, according to a statement released by MotoGP on Monday.
The statement stated that Carmelo Ezpeleta, the company’s seasoned executive president, will stay in his role and that Dorna will continue to operate as an independent business under the Liberty Media Formula One Group with its headquarters located in Madrid.
Liberty Media will acquire about 86% of Dorna, while Dorna’s management will retain about 14% of its shares. The transaction is expected to be completed by the end of 2024.
The acquisition could attract regulatory scrutiny. CVC Capital Partners, which sold Formula 1 to Liberty in 2017, received the go-ahead from the European Commission to buy F1 in 2006 on the condition that it sell Dorna.
