Apple is moving away from China and doubling its iPhone manufacture in India to $14 billion
Approximately 14 percent of Apple’s iPhones are being made in India, twice what was done the previous year.
According to a Bloomberg article published on Wednesday, Apple manufactured $14 billion worth of iPhones in India during the previous fiscal year, indicating the company’s ongoing efforts to manufacture more smartphones outside of China.
Apple has expanded manufacture in nations like Vietnam and India in an effort to diversify its supply chain as ties between the United States and China have deteriorated. For the iPhone manufacturer, which has always relied on China for manufacturing, this is a significant change.
According to the research, Apple currently produces 1 in 7 or 14% of its iPhones in India, which is twice as much as it did the previous year. According to the research, Foxconn produced around 67% of those iPhones, and Pegatron built about 17% of them. The rest was built by Wistron.
The prime minister of India, Narendra Modi, was hosted by Apple CEO Tim Cook and other tech CEOs in the White House in June 2023. India, according to Cook, offers a «huge opportunity.» Last year, Apple launched its first retail locations in the nation.
Despite a difficult start to the year, Apple still counts China as a key market. According to a March Counterpoint Research research, China’s iPhone sales fell by 24% in the first half of 2024. The company said that Huawei and other smartphone makers compete fiercely with Apple.
