Meta introduces a new AI chip generation
On Wednesday, Meta Platforms released information on the upcoming iteration of their proprietary AI accelerator hardware.
like order to handle the growing amount of processing power required to operate AI products like Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, Meta intended to implement a new version of a specialized data center processor. Internally known as «Artemis,» the chip will assist Meta in lowering its total energy expenses and dependency on Nvida’s AI processors.
The business is looking at additional hardware solutions as part of a larger bespoke silicon project that includes the new Meta Training and Inference Accelerator (MTIA) chip. Meta has invested much in creating the software required to optimize the power of its infrastructure, in addition to manufacturing the chips and hardware.
Additionally, the business is investing billions in Nvidia and other AI chips: CEO Mark Zuckerberg said this year that the business will buy about 350,000 of Nvidia’s flagship H100 processors. According to him, Meta intends to amass the equivalent of 600,000 H100 chips this year when combined with other providers.
