Orders for VW electric vehicles have doubled across Europe
In the first quarter of 2024, Volkswagen’s orders for electric cars in Europe increased dramatically compared to the same period the previous year, defying reports that drivers would be growing disinterested in EVs.
In Europe, new orders for electric vehicles more than quadrupled, Volkswagen reported in a Tuesday results release. Order numbers for other markets are kept confidential by the corporation.
The increase in orders at the largest automaker in Europe coincides with worries about the region’s EV sales slowing down and as EV manufacturers struggle with narrow profit margins due to growing competition.
In the first quarter of 2023, Volkswagen’s electric vehicle deliveries in Europe decreased by 16% as compared to the same time the previous year. «Supply bottlenecks affected all-electric deliveries in Europe,» a business representative told CNN. «There is a delay between the receipt of incoming orders and the customer’s delivery. The delivery performance in Q1 was hampered by the supply difficulties indicated.
The automaker intends to shorten the time to market for new features and products by 30% and introduce four new models—two of which will be electric—in China over the course of the next three years.
