For three years, Christmas Day NFL games will be streamed on Netflix
In its first real foray into live sports, Netflix has announced that it will stream NFL games on Christmas Day for the next three years.
The league declared on Wednesday that the streaming service will broadcast two games on Christmas Day of this year, along with at least one clash in 2025 and 2026.
The amount Netflix spent to have the games available for streaming is unknown.
With its «Quarterback» series, which follows NFL signal callers, and its documentary «Formula 1: Drive to Survive,» Netflix has successfully attracted sizable viewership with its sports programs. Despite making significant progress in live programming with the WWE’s «Raw» and a boxing match between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul, the corporation said it had not yet discovered a successful live sports rights plan.
At a time when it is attempting to increase earnings by hiking subscription costs, pressuring users toward an ad-tier membership, and clamping down on password sharing, Netflix will now stream games for the most watched sports league in the United States.
Last year, 28.68 million people watched the three NFL games on Christmas Day on average.
