The $842 million Powerball jackpot winner for New Year’s Day was been revealed in Michigan
Following a New Year’s Day drawing, the second-largest lottery prize ever won in Michigan was recently claimed, ending a six-month mystery.
The $842 million Powerball jackpot winner was revealed by the Michigan Lottery to be The Breakfast Club.
The lottery revealed at a press conference on Tuesday that the members, who have not been identified, had chosen to take their reward as a lump amount of $305 million after taxes.
The lottery club was represented by an attorney, who spoke on their behalf but declined to disclose the number of members.
“The club members have felt many emotions since realizing their ticket was the one,” the group’s attorney said. “They’ve been elated and overwhelmed, thrilled and nervous. They’ve gone from shock and sleepless nights to giving careful thought as to how this once-in-a-lifetime event will transform their lives.”
According to the club’s lawyer, group members intend to travel, get ready for retirement, give more to charity, and look forward to «sharing our good fortune with immediate family by helping them realize their dreams.»
The Breakfast Club stated they made the decision «to take a more deliberate path and ensure we have the right team of advisers in place to help us decide the best way to move forward,» despite the fact that others would have been in line to pick up their winnings the day after the winning numbers were revealed.
The proprietors of the Food Castle convenience store, from which the winning ticket was purchased, also got a $50,000 commission from the Michigan Lottery for doing so.
The Grand Blanc family-owned business stated that it will use charity organizations to distribute the full check to its staff and the local community.
The sixth-largest Powerball jackpot ever won has been awarded to the members of the Breakfast Club.
Powerball 1 and the numbers 12, 21, 42, 44, and 49 were the winning ones. There was a 3X Power Play multiplier.
