NBA champion Jayson Tatum has a new deal for $314 million, but he refuses to spend it. «I have recollections of my struggles.»

Although Jayson Tatum recently inked the highest-paying NBA deal ever, don’t count on the defending champion using any of the $314 million.

The 26-year-old revealed to Graham Bensinger last year that he will only spend the money he receives from sponsorships by a long-standing agreement he has with his mother Brandy Cole, who also oversees his finances.

According to Forbes, the All-Star earned an estimated $13 million from sponsorships in 2024. His sponsors include Nike, Gatorade, Google, and Subway.

The mother-son team stated that because of their prior financial anxieties before to Tatum’s NBA debut, they are cautious with his basketball earnings.

“For most of my life I didn’t have money,” Tatum said. “I didn’t have an investment account, checking account, a credit card. I remember what it’s like to struggle and not have.”

Tatum, who claims to have generally learned to spend «in moderation now,» believes that remembering what it was like to be impoverished is a big part of appreciating his prosperity. Tatum allows himself some leeway to enjoy himself as long as he abides by the conditions of the agreement he signed when he was just 19 years old.
