Uber plans to create «autonomous-capable vehicles» and begin deploying BYD vehicles across Europe and Latin America
On Wednesday, BYD and Uber announced that, beginning in Europe and Latin America, drivers on the ride-hailing platform can receive financing and price offers for the electric cars manufactured by the Chinese business.
According to a press statement, the two businesses will also create «autonomous-capable vehicles» for Uber’s network.
The multi-year strategic cooperation comes despite the EU this year joining the U.S. in hiking duties on imports of electric cars built in China. According to the firms, this partnership may bring 100,000 BYD cars to Uber.
BYD shipped more than 240,000 automobiles to 70 countries last year. This year, the business wants to more than double those car shipments.
“This collaboration marks a new era in the electrification of urban mobility, and we look forward to seeing our cutting-edge EVs become a common sight on the streets of cities worldwide,” according to the statement, Stella Li is the CEO of BYD Americas and executive vice president of BYD.
