GM lays off more than 1,000 employees in its software and services department
General Motors (GM) announced Monday that it will lay off more than 1,000 salaried employees in its software and services units worldwide.
GM, confirming the layoffs initially reported by CNBC, said in a statement that “as we build GM’s future, we must simplify for speed and excellence, make bold decisions and prioritize investments that will have the greatest impact.”
CNBC stated that the job cuts include approximately 600 jobs at GM’s technology campus near Detroit. GM, which said about half of the cuts are in the U.S., said the layoffs were not due to cost cuts, but followed a review of operations after the departure of Mike Abbott, executive vice president of software and services in March, who left for health reasons.
