Canada imposes 100% tariffs on electric cars “Made in China”
In an effort to prevent automobiles subsidized by China from entering North America, the Canadian government slapped 100% extra taxes on electric vehicles made in China. This move is comparable to one made by the US government.
Accusing China of «unfair competition,» Prime Minister Justin Trudeau stated during a press conference in Halifax that «China does not respect the same rules as other countries.» The 6.1% tariffs currently in effect for this industry are supplemented by the 100% levies.
Faced with the “challenge” posed by Chinese producers “who benefit from unfair and anti-market policies and practices,” Canada is acting “in line with other economies around the world,” Trudeau said.
