Zuckerberg claims that Meta was forced to restrict information on Covid-19 by the Biden administration
The CEO of Meta, Mark Zuckerberg, said that during the epidemic, the Biden administration put pressure on the firm to «censor» content concerning COVID-19. He was presumably alluding to White House attempts to have false information about the coronavirus and vaccinations removed.
In a letter dated August 26, Zuckerberg expressed his remorse to the U.S. House Judiciary Committee for his silence on this campaign and other judgments he had made regarding the removal of specific content while running Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.
Democratic President Joe Biden claimed in July 2021 that social media sites like Facebook «are killing people» because they permit false information on coronavirus vaccinations to be shared there.
Others, like surgeon general Vivek Murthy and former White House press secretary Jen Psaki, stated in public that the firm was not doing enough to clear out false material, which was making it more difficult to combat the pandemic and save lives.
Facebook declared at the time that it was fighting false information with «aggressive steps.» Even while misinformation regarding vaccinations persisted on social media, the Biden administration gradually tempered its criticism.
In a letter to the Republican-dominated House Judiciary Committee on Monday, Zuckerberg claimed that his firm was under «pressure» to «censor» information and threatened to retaliate if it was asked to do so in the future.
