Warriors sign Stephen Curry to a $62.6 million, one-year contract deal
The Golden State Warriors and NBA star Stephen Curry have agreed to a one-year, $62.6 million contract deal.
Curry will become the first NBA player to earn $60 million in a season with the agreement, which keeps him in a Warriors uniform through the 2026–2027 campaign, according to Spotrac. Currently, a number of NBA players who have committed to long-term deals are expected to earn more money in 2019 than Curry did in 2016.
Curry, a four-time NBA champion, most recently took home a gold medal from the 2024 Olympics while playing basketball for Team USA. Curry scored a team-high 24 points in the championship game against France, all of which came from three-point range.
Curry has a history of breaking records. According to Spotrac, he was the first NBA player to reach the $40 million and $50 million yearly base pay milestones. He has also held the title of highest paid player in the league since the 2017–18 campaign.
The NBA was able to negotiate an 11-year, $77 billion media rights package with Disney, NBCUniversal, and Amazon in its most recent deal, which goes into effect after the 2019 season, in part because of Curry and other players. Player salary increases are a result of the media rights market’s explosive growth.v
