Alice Walton has just become the richest woman in the world
Alice Walton, the lone daughter of the retail behemoth’s founder, Sam Walton (who passed away in 1992), just surpassed all other women in terms of wealth for the first time since 2020 with Walmart shares at an all-time high.
Walton, 74, overtook Francoise Bettencourt Meyers, a French heiress of L’Oreal, who temporarily became the first female in June and now has an estimated net worth of $88.4 billion, with a wealth estimated at $89.1 billion.
Now, one position behind his brother Rob Walton in the world’s wealthiest list, Walton is ranked 18th. L’Oreal’s shares have decreased 13% year to far, while Walmart’s have increased 47%.
Sam Walton’s heirs still own nearly 46% of the company their father founded, even after selling more than $22 billion in Walmart stock over the past ten years (and selling more than $11 billion in shares of the retail chain). This is because the family’s stake has been preserved through significant share buybacks.
