Essilor Luxottica approves of Meta’s cooperation in order to enhance the design of its AI eyewear
Tuesday saw the completion of a 10-year deal between Essilor Luxottica and Meta to continue developing smart glasses, marking the extension of the two companies’ cooperation.
Francesco Milleri, CEO of Essilor Luxottica, stated, «The amazing work we have done with Meta, still in its early stages, has already proven to be an important milestone in our journey to make eyewear the gateway to the connected world.»
The idea of Meta purchasing stock in the eyeglasses company was not mentioned in the news announcement. According to the CEO of Essilor Luxottica, he was notified by the IT giant in July that the firm would get investment.
The two businesses had previously spoken about Meta possibly purchasing a 5% share in the French-Italian conglomerate, according to a Wall Street Journal story.
Since 2019, Essilor Luxottica and Meta have worked together to develop two iterations of smart glasses bearing the Ray-Ban trademark.
