If John Deere shifts its manufacturing to Mexico, Trump threatens to impose tariffs
Donald Trump, a Republican running for president, threatened to impose a 200% import tax on John Deere if the agricultural equipment manufacturer relocated its operations to Mexico.
“I just notified John Deere right now that if they do that, we’re going to put a 200% tariff on everything they want to sell to the United States.”
This Monday, the former president took part in a roundtable discussion with farmers in Pennsylvania, one of the key states in the presidential race, when they expressed their worries about the industry’s current status.
John Deere’s announcement earlier this year that it will boost its manufacturing capacity in Mexico and lay off some people in the Midwest has angered both labor unions and some political figures.
