In Russia, Google prohibited the establishment of new accounts
According to Russia’s Digital Ministry, which was cited by official news outlets on Thursday, Google has blocked Russian users’ ability to create new accounts.
Since Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine, Google has been under pressure in Russia for a number of reasons, most notably for failing to remove information that Moscow deems unlawful and for restricting Russian media and public figure YouTube channels.
According to Interfax, «The Ministry of Communications confirms that Google has limited the creation of new accounts.» «The quantity of SMS messages that the company sent to Russian users has significantly decreased, as reported by telecom operators as well.»
Requests for response from Google and the Ministry were not immediately answered.
