Volkswagen consents to reimburse 10,000 consumers $23 million for the «Dieselgate» scandal
According to a report released on Wednesday by the consumer advocacy group VKI, the German carmaker Volkswagen has decided to provide 23 million euros to 10,000 Austrian consumers who were impacted by the «Dieselgate» incident.
According to that group, «the protracted litigation has now been settled out of court,» marking a significant advancement in the protection of consumer rights.
When it was discovered in 2015 that Volkswagen had falsified the pollutant emissions data of 11 million vehicles worldwide, the impacted owners sued the corporation, claiming they had paid too much for their diesel vehicles.
In late 2018, VKI brought a class action lawsuit, claiming that purchasers overpaid for cars that polluted more than permitted and thus had a 20% decrease in value.
