Similar to 2023, Amazon announces employing 250,000 workers for the holidays

Amazon said on Thursday that it will be hiring the same 250,000 shipping and warehousing workers that it did in the previous year in anticipation of e-commerce spending exceeding traditional holiday sales in the fourth quarter of 2024.

“While we anticipate an increase in demand and volume, we believe 250,000 is the right number to continue to grow and move forward with our operations,” said Sandy Gordon, vice president of Global Operations Employee Experience at Amazon.

It was unclear what proportion of the 250,000 seasonal workers—which also include staff members at delivery stations, sorting centers, and logistics centers—would work in transportation or logistics facilities. A business spokeswoman stated that transportation staff will not include delivery service partners or their crews.

It is anticipated that online Christmas shoppers will spend a record $240.8 billion, 4.9% more than the previous year. A Mastercard projection states that holiday spending will rise by a moderate 3.2%.
