‘Guardian Caps’ have been used to prevent concussions by 50%, according to NFL reports.
According to NFL Chief Medical Officer Allen Sills, concussion rates have decreased by almost half since players on all 32 teams started using the cushioned over-the-helmet coverings, or «Guardian Caps,» in the summer of last year.
For the NFL, the ‘Guardian Caps’ have been an overwhelming success. Over the last two preseasons, they have significantly reduced concussions in practice by about 50%, the physician reported.
The NFL decided that players should wear these kinds of padded over-the-helmet coverings during preseason training before the regular season to lessen the force of impact that resulted in a high number of concussions during the 2023 preseason and many investigations.
Throughout the season’s first four weeks, five to ten players have employed this attachment every day.
