Facebook and Instagram begin cracking down on celebrity fraud advertisements
In an effort to combat scammers who deceitfully utilize celebrities in advertisements, Meta, the owner of Facebook and Instagram, is implementing face recognition technology.
These frauds, which usually advertise investment ideas and cryptocurrencies, have targeted people like Elon Musk and personal finance guru Martin Lewis.
Meta is currently looking to strengthen its ad review system using face recognition technology, which employs artificial intelligence (AI) to identify phony celebrity endorsements.
It will function by contrasting pictures from advertisements that have been marked as questionable with pictures from celebrities’ Instagram or Facebook profiles.
The image will be instantly removed if it is verified to be a match and the advertisement is fraudulent.
The system’s «early testing» had yielded «promising results,» according to Meta, so it will now begin displaying in-app messages to a wider range of public personalities who have been affected by so-called «celeb-bait.»
