75 billion pesos to be invested in a green city to attract nearshoring to Mexicali

Mexicali is building a green and smart city to attract nearshoring. And in this project that will give an industrial turn to the capital of Baja California, 75 billion pesos will be invested over the next decade.

“We want to turn Mexicali into a value center that offers companies cost efficiency, an environment that fosters innovation, technological development and sustainable growth (in a city),” reveals Luis Manuel Elizondo, president of the Mexicali Business Coordinating Council.

The green city, which is part of the Total Nearshoring Solution plan, will include around 27,000 dwellings, 40 industrial buildings, and principal and secondary highways.

According to the business representative, the project aimed at attracting Mexican and foreign enterprises will include water, drainage, rainwater, and power systems, as well as parks, daycare, security, basic health, governmental offices, and even retail stores.

According to him, the Total Nearshoring Solution strategy is creating conditions that will attract plants and factories in the semiconductor, logistics, manufacturing, auto transport, medical, agricultural, and biotechnology industries.

The green city, he continues, would first be developed on an area of 1,400 hectares and is scheduled to be completed in 10-12 years.
