PDD’s Temu app tops U.S. iOS downloads for the second year running, amid increased scrutiny of Chinese companies

Temu app

Temu, a popular e-commerce app owned by China’s PDD Holdings, topped Apple’s list of the most downloaded free apps on its U.S. iOS store for the second year in a row, demonstrating Chinese apps’ huge popularity in the world’s largest consumer market.

TikTok, owned by ByteDance, ranked third amid concerns about its ability to continue operating in the United States, while Temu competitor and fast-fashion behemoth Shein ranked 12th.

According to StatCounter, Apple’s iOS accounts for more than 56% of the US mobile phone market.

Temu, which ships low-cost goods from China, first entered the US market in 2022. The company’s success has put pressure on Amazon, the market leader.

However, the Chinese corporation faces increasing scrutiny from US officials, as well as dangers from tariffs that the incoming Trump administration has threatened to hike.
