Trump signs order to declare cartels as terrorist groups
President Donald Trump issued an executive order on Monday designating Mexican cartels, the Tren de Aragua criminal group, and the Salvadoran MS-13 gang as terrorist organizations.
These groups will be added to a list of organizations, including the Islamic State and Al-Qaeda, to which US firms and persons are forbidden from providing «material support.»
“Mexico probably doesn’t want this,” Trump said in the Oval Office after signing the executive order.
Asked by a reporter if the decision would involve targeting cartels on Mexican territory, he replied, “It could happen, stranger things have happened.”
