Tesla shares fell 60% in Germany due to Musk’s electoral intervention

Tesla, owned by Elon Musk, saw a nearly 60% drop in electric vehicle sales in Germany in January compared to the same month last year, after the billionaire, who owns a car plant near Berlin, meddled in the election campaign by publicly backing the far-right.
According to brand-specific sales figures given by Germany’s Federal Road Transport Authority (KBA), Tesla sold 1,277 units in January, a 59.5% decrease from January 2024.
This accounts for 0.6% of all brands sold in the Central European country last month, led by Volkswagen, which sold 46,381 units.
Tesla’s lone European facility is in Grünheide. The Berlin-Brandenburg Gigafactory is the first location on the Old Continent to produce battery cells alongside electric automobiles in the same facility.
