Electric vehicle manufacturer Rivian opens commercial van sales to fleets of all sizes

Rivian is expanding sales of its delivery vans to fleets of all sizes in the United States, the electric vehicle manufacturer announced Monday, more than a year after severing its exclusive agreement with shareholder Amazon.
Rivian, best known for its premium R1S SUVs and R1T pickup vehicles, has seen demand for its commercial vans exceed Amazon’s, and has been testing them with huge fleets. Rivian’s success will depend on van sales and its plans to debut its smaller and less expensive R2 SUVs in 2026, as broader demand for electric vehicles has fallen due to high borrowing rates.
“Rivian has been testing its commercial van with several large fleets in the United States and preparing its fleet management process for the mass market,” the company said in a statement. “These pilot projects have paved the way to enable Rivian to open more sales.” Rivian ended its exclusive van sales agreement with Amazon at the end of 2023, but reaffirmed its commitment to fulfill an order of 100,000 vans by 2030. Amazon currently has 20,000 Rivian vans in its fleet.
