Musk’s X agrees to pay approximately $10 million to settle Trump’s lawsuit

Elon Musk’s social media platform X has agreed to pay about $10 million to settle a lawsuit that U.S. President Donald Trump brought against the company and its former chief executive, the Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday.
That makes X the second social media platform to settle with Trump over the suspension of his accounts following the storming of the U.S. Capitol by his supporters in January 2021.
Last month, Meta Platforms (META.O), opens new tab, said that it had agreed to pay approximately $25 million to resolve a lawsuit filed by Trump. In July 2021, Trump filed lawsuits against Twitter (now X), Facebook, and Alphabet (GOOGL.O), as well as their respective CEOs, alleging unconstitutional censorship of conservative perspectives.
According to the WSJ, Trump’s staff considered dropping the case with X because of the president’s tight friendship with Musk, who contributed $250 million to Trump’s election campaign.
Musk, the CEO of Tesla (TSLA.O), now oversees the Department of Government Efficiency, a new White House department aimed with significantly reducing the government bureaucracy.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Trump’s attorneys are also anticipated to seek a compensation with Google, which blocked Trump from YouTube following the 2021 riot in the United States Capitol.
