The Azteca Stadium, one of Mexico’s and the world’s most iconic soccer stadiums, will change its name after 58 years to the Banorte Stadium. Grupo Financiero Banorte and Grupo Ollamani will form an association and vow to upgrade the stadium. In a news statement, the corporations announced that Banorte will invest 2.1 billion pesos (US$ 105 million) «to promote the modernization and transformation of the historic stadium».

The contract will last 12 years, and Banorte will have rights and benefits over signage, ads, publicity, and «the use of Banorte’s products and services inside the Azteca Stadium».

The stadium will be one of Mexico’s sites for the 2026 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the United States and Canada, making it the world’s first stadium to hold a World Cup for the third time. It is now the sole stadium to have hosted two World Cup finals, in 1970 and 1986.

Carlos Hank González, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Banorte, highlighted that the change is part of the evolution of the stadium’s history. “Today it begins a new era, putting itself at the forefront of modernity and sustainability,” he said in a message on his X account.
