Tesla’s sales decline in Europe intensifies amid anti-Musk protests

Tesla sales in major European regions dipped again in March, according to figures released Tuesday, adding to evidence that drivers are turning away from Elon Musk’s electric car brand in the face of increasing competition from China and protests by some over its political views.
Tesla’s new vehicle sales in France and Sweden decreased for the third consecutive month, leading to the company’s lowest first-quarter sales results in both countries since 2021.
Musk, a close ally of US President Donald Trump, sparked outrage by wooing far-right groups in Europe, compounding Tesla’s sales fall ahead of the anticipated launch of its Model Y large SUV.
In response to his right-wing campaigning, Tesla automobiles and dealerships were vandalized. In recent days, dozens of cars have been burnt and showrooms spray-painted in cities across Europe, including Rome, Berlin, and Stockholm.
Analysts expect statistics from Italy and other European regions on Tuesday and Wednesday to provide more insight into the group’s global first-quarter delivery results, which will be announced on Wednesday, as well as consumer trust in the brand.
According to official data, Tesla sold 3,157 cars in France, 911 in Sweden, and 2,211 in Norway last month, representing a 36.83, 63.9, and 1% decrease over the previous year.
In Denmark, registrations totaled 593, a 65.6% decrease, while in the Netherlands, they were down 61% to 1,536.
Quarterly sales fell 41.1% in France, 55.3% in Sweden, 12.5% in Norway, 55.3% in Denmark, and 49.7% in the Netherlands.
