Musk says he will honor commitment to stay on as Tesla CEO for at least 5 years
Elon Musk affirmed his commitment to stay on as Tesla CEO for at least another five years, weeks after the electric vehicle maker’s chairman denied reports that the board had contacted executive search firms to find his successor.
Having reasonable control of Tesla was the most important factor in staying at the helm of the company, he told an economic forum in Qatar on Tuesday.
Tesla shares briefly rose 3.3% following the comments, but subsequently pared gains to trade down about 1%. The stock is down 15% year-to-date.
Earlier this month, Tesla CEO Robyn Denholm denied a Wall Street Journal report that claimed board members had contacted several executive search firms to find a replacement for Musk.
Musk claimed at the event that Tesla had already improved sales and that demand was strong in regions other than Europe, where the company faced protests over its political views.
