How will the Trump administration’s actions affect Harvard international students?

In addition to upsetting existing and potential students worldwide, President Donald Trump’s administration’s attempts to stop Harvard University from accepting overseas students have cut to the heart of the Ivy League university’s character.

Last week, the government warned the thousands of international students enrolled at Harvard that they would lose their legal right to remain in the country unless they transferred to another institution. A federal judge decided on Friday to put that decision on hold while a lawsuit is pending.

In a letter, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem accused Harvard of «perpetuating an unsafe campus environment that is hostile to Jewish students, promotes pro-Hamas sympathies, and employs racist ‘diversity, equity, and inclusion’ policies.'» The Department of Homeland Security took this latest step because Harvard failed to fully comply with requests to produce records about its foreign students. The university enrolls approximately 7,000 international students, the majority of whom are in graduate programs.
